Which Venues Are Right on the Water

For a lakeside wedding on the water itself, only three venues say they qualify. Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork is on the shore. KwaTaqNuk Resort in Polson has a dance floor platform right on the shore. Flathead Lake Venue in Dayton has lake frontage and an hour on its private dock for photos.

Four others describe lake views. The Overlook, a 15-acre estate overlooking the lake, has a clear-top reception pavilion, Mountain Lake Lodge looks out to the Rocky Mountains, The Farmhouse has lake views, and The Barn at Finley Point is a 5,000-square-foot barn on a farm with a lake view. Three make no lake claim, including Atanaha, on 12 wooded acres at the base of the Swan Mountains.

05

What a Flathead Lake Lodge Wedding Costs

Flathead Lake Lodge does not print a wedding price. Weddings there are three-day, three-night ranch buyouts in May and June or September and October, so ask the lodge for a quote.

Its rates page lists a cabin, homestead and suite rate of $7,266 for adults. That is the lodge's guest-ranch vacation rate, not a wedding price.

06

Catering and Alcohol Rules to Check

Lake resorts often control the food and drink at the wedding reception. KwaTaqNuk Resort, which has a ballroom for large receptions, says all food and beverages must be bought through the resort, except the wedding cake. Atanaha Event Center says outside alcohol is not allowed anywhere on the property.

Ask every venue the same questions before you sign. Our list of questions to ask a wedding venue covers catering, alcohol and Montana's alcohol rules.

When Flathead Lake Venues Book Weddings

Lake season is short for an outdoor wedding, and each event venue prices around it.

  • Flathead Lake Lodge, a historic venue with log lodges, holds weddings in May and June, and September and October.
  • Flathead Lake Venue calls May to October peak season and charges weekday rates from November to April.
  • The Overlook at Flathead Lake is booking 2027 wedding weekends.

09

A Private Base 40 Miles From the Lake: North Star Ranch

You do not need a lake venue to give guests a lake day. North Star Ranch near Whitefish, at the north end of the Flathead Valley, is 40.7 miles from Flathead Lake, so the wedding can happen on private land and the group can spend a day on the water.

Guests stay on the ranch in a five-bedroom chalet, four cabins and an eight-room lodge. It is 8 miles from downtown Whitefish and 25 minutes from Glacier Park International Airport. Check dates at North Star Ranch.
