The short answer

The reception has to happen outside the park. Glacier bans catered food and tables at its ceremony sites and caps every wedding at two hours. The closest venues sit in West Glacier and Coram, within about 15 minutes of the west entrance, with more choices in Whitefish.

01

Why a Glacier National Park Wedding Needs a Venue Outside the Park

The park's rules decide this for you. The National Park Service limits every wedding ceremony to two hours, including setup and photos. Arches, tables, and catered food are not allowed, other visitors can stand nearby, and the park provides no indoor option if a storm rolls in.

So couples who want Glacier in the story usually split the wedding day. They hold a short ceremony or elopement at a permitted wedding location inside the park, then drive to a venue for dinner, toasts, and a place to sleep. Others skip the permit and marry at a private, rustic venue with mountain views.

Read the full permit rules in the guide to getting married in Glacier National Park. This page covers the venues.

East Glacier, Kalispell and Flathead Valley Options

Whitefish, in the Flathead Valley, adds the most choice. Grouse Mountain Lodge has a plan for groups of 30 or less and 144 rooms. This side-by-side venue guide compares ten options in and around town, and the Kalispell wedding venues add more choice 15 miles south.

05

When Glacier Wedding Locations Are Open

Season changes which parts of the park you can use. The park writes permits for dates with expected vehicle access, and a permit does not get you past a closed road. Big Bend, on Going-to-the-Sun Road, is open to cars from early July to mid October.

Several sites near Apgar stay reachable all year, including Apgar Picnic Area Shoreline and Lake McDonald Lodge Beach. Couples who want a winter ski or snowshoe-in ceremony can ask for one on the application. June through September is the busy stretch, with little parking near most locations.

Venue seasons matter too. Glacier Homestead books weddings May through September, while an indoor room, like the Great Room at North Star Ranch or the banquet rooms at Grouse Mountain Lodge, keeps a fall or winter date on track.

06

Pairing a Park Wedding Ceremony or Elopement With a Venue Dinner

Pick the venue first, then choose a wedding location that fits your guest count. A group of 25 cannot use Big Bend, which allows 10. Lake McDonald Lodge Beach and Fish Creek Picnic Area Shoreline allow 30, the Many Glacier Hotel sites allow 15 to 20, and Apgar Amphitheater allows 250.

Build the day around the two-hour window. Guests need time to pay the entrance fee, find parking that cannot be reserved, and drive to dinner. If rain is likely, have the venue ready to host the vows too, since the park offers no indoor backup.

Common questions

A few answers before you plan

Can you have a wedding reception inside Glacier National Park?

Not at a permitted ceremony site. The park does not allow catered food service, tables, or arches there, so couples hold the reception at a venue outside the park.

What is the closest wedding venue to Glacier National Park?

Paddle Ridge in West Glacier lists itself as less than a mile from the park, and Great Northern Resort sits just outside the west entrance. Green Valley Ranch in Coram is 15 minutes away.

How much does a wedding venue near Glacier cost?

Few venues publish prices. Glacier Homestead lists $12,500 for two nights plus an 8% fee, and Green Valley Ranch lists $36,800 to $40,000 for a four-night buyout in 2026. Most others quote by inquiry.

Do wedding guests pay the Glacier entrance fee?

Yes. The park says the wedding party and guests pay entrance fees, and the permit does not reserve parking.

Can we elope in Glacier National Park instead?

Yes, with the same Special Use Permit every ceremony needs. Big Bend and Kintla Lake allow 10 people, which fits a Glacier National Park elopement with a photographer and officiant.
